Grand Teton National Park
Grand Teton National Park is a United States National Park in northwestern Wyoming. At approximately 310,000 acres (480 sq mi; 130,000 ha; 1,300 km2), the park includes the major peaks of the 40-mile-long (64 km) Teton Range as well as most of the northern sections of the valley known as Jackson Hole. Grand Teton National Park is named for Grand Teton, the tallest mountain in the Teton Range. The naming of the mountains is attributed to early 19th-century French-speaking trappers—les trois tétons (the three teats) was later anglicized and shortened to Tetons. At 13,775 feet (4,199 m), Grand Teton abruptly rises more than 7,000 feet (2,100 m) above Jackson Hole, almost 850 feet (260 m) higher than Mount Owen, the second-highest summit in the range.

Motorcycle Camping - Grand Teton National Park
A short film we made during the time that we met up with Josh Laskin at Grand Teton National Park. He was nearing the end of a 12,000 mile motorcycle road trip where he camped out over 3 months along the way.
Motorcycle camping is similar to backpacking in the sense that gear choices must be considered in terms of size and weight because it’s all got to fit on 2 wheels.
Hope you guys enjoy this look at what it’s like to travel and camp by motorcycle in one of the most gorgeous parks of America.

Teton Range: Symmetry Spire Sunset Summit Panorama
Panorama from the summit of Symmetry Spire(10,560ft) after successfully climbing the Southwest Ridge route. The view from the top was epic, especiallly because it was sunset. The sunlight was streaming behind the Grand Teton and Teewinot and Mount Owen, and well as The Jaw, Mount St. John, Hanging Canyon, and nearly the whole northern Teton Range. Unfortunatly because we summited at sundown we had to scramble down the Northwest Ledges and the Upper and Lower Symmetry Couloir in the dark.
Teton Range: Baxter's Pinnacle Summit Panorama Vertigo
Footage from the summit of Baxter's Pinnacle, one of the most classic climbs in the Teton Range. The South Ridge/Face is rated at 5.9+, but is mostly 5.6 and 5.7, with the final pitch having a tough 5.9+ move. The climb supposedly is 6 pitches in length, but can be done in 4 if you scramble up the first pitch. The view from the summit is amazing, with the Grand Teton, Mount Owen, and Teewinot seen from a stunning angle. You must rappel off of the summit using a 70 meter rope and scramble down the gully in order to get down. From there it is a short hike from the mouth of Cascade Canyon around Jenny Lake to the parking area at String Lake.

Teton Range
The Teton Range is a mountain range of the Rocky Mountains in North America.
A north-south range, it is mostly on Wyoming's eastern side of the Idaho state line. It is south of Yellowstone National Park. Most of the east slope of the range is in Grand Teton National Park.
Early French Voyageurs used the name les trois tétons (the three breasts). It is likely that the Shoshone people once called the whole range Teewinot, meaning "many pinnacles".
The principal summits of the central massif, sometimes referred to as the Cathedral Group, are Grand Teton 13,770 feet (4,200 m), Mount Owen 12,928 feet (3,940 m), Teewinot 12,325 feet (3,757 m), Middle Teton 12,804 feet (3,903 m) and South Teton 12,514 feet (3,814 m). Other peaks in the range include Mount Moran 12,605 feet (3,842 m), Mount Wister 11,490 feet (3,500 m), Buck Mountain 11,938 feet (3,639 m) and Static Peak 11,303 feet (3,445 m).
Geology
Main article: Geology of the Grand Teton area
Between six and nine million years ago, stretching and thinning of the Earth's crust caused movement along the Teton fault. The west block along the fault line rose to form the Teton Range, creating the youngest range of the Rocky Mountains. The fault's east block fell to form the valley called Jackson Hole. The geological processes that led to the current composition of the oldest rocks in the Teton range began about 2.5 billion years ago. At that time, sand and volcanic debris settled into an ancient ocean. Additional sediment was deposited for millions of years and eventually heat and pressure metamorphosed the sediment into gneiss. Subsequently, magma was forced up through the cracks in the gneiss to form granite, anywhere from inches to hundreds of feet thick. Other intrusive igneous rocks are noticeable as the black dikes of diabase, visible on the southwest face of Mount Moran and on the Grand Teton. Starting during the Cambrian period, deep deposits of sedimentary rock were deposited in shallow seas over the metamorphic basement rocks. Erosion and uplift have exposed the metamorphic and intrusive igneous rocks now visible on the east slope of the range and in the Cathedral Group and the paleozoic and cenozoic sedimentary rocks on the west slope. 2.1 million years ago the Huckleberry Ridge Tuff was deposited along the west slope of the north part of the range.
One reason the Teton Range is famous is because of the great elevation above the eastern side. Unlike most mountain ranges, the east side of the teton range lacks foothills, or lower peaks which can obscure the view. This is due to the Teton Fault at the base of the range on the eastern side, and the range being too young to have eroded into soft hills. The east slope of the Teton range rises sharply, from 5,000 to 7,000 feet above the valley floor. The view is most dramatic from the east; on the west side, the Teton range appears as high rolling hills that transition smoothly into flat pasture.
Filming location
Jackson Hole and the Tetons have been the setting for a number of films, including John Wayne's movie acting debut in The Big Trail in 1930 and the western film classic, Shane in 1953. Mount Moran and the surrounding mountains were used as a backdrop for the lake/swamp setting in the original series of Land of the Lost (1974 TV series).
Grand Teton National Park: Mountains to Main Street 2016
Mountains to Main Street is a collaborative partnership between Groundwork USA, The Student Conservation Association, and Teton Science Schools. The program is made possible through the fundraising efforts of Grand Teton National Park Foundation and Grand Teton Association.
This eight-week program aims to actively engage under-represented, urban youth ages 18-26, with their national parks through the leadership and community-mobilization expertise of young adults who will serve as Mountains to Main Street Urban Ambassadors. After a week-long training workshop in the park, the ambassadors will return to their communities where they will lead the celebration of the National Park Service centennial and connect inner city populations with national parks.

Nature: Grand Teton National Park

The Tetons
A land largely unaffected by the progress of man, the Tetons Range and the surrounding areas are a pristine ecosystem inhabited by a vast diversity of wildlife spreading across multiple national parks. Uninhibited by foothills on the eastern side the range rises sharply and splits upper Wyoming and lower Idaho in two. On one side sits Jackson Hole, home to the legendary ski area and playground to outdoor junkies. On the other resides the Teton Valley: a landscape dotted with hay farms and the small rustic towns of eastern Idaho. Smack in the middle, off the pass that separates the two, lies some of the most progressive mountain bike trails in America. Local riders teaming with the Forest Service have created a network of trails designed and built specifically for riding. We explored both sides of the pass and rode varied terrain from purpose-built bike park features to backcountry singletrack, clinging to the edge of 10,000-foot peaks. The experience instilled a sense in us that the locals have got it figured out here, and the need for a satellite Yeti office in JH.
Slaying Pillow Lines In A Mountain Oasis - Almost Live Season 8 Episode 1
Well folks its officially that time of year, TGR's still unnamed 21st annual film has been under production since the early days of winter. The first trip of the season was a human-powered trip to Golden Alpine Holidays, a hut located deep in the mountains of British Columbia. After a heli-assisted transfer into the lodge, an all-star crew consisting of Dylan Hood, Lucas Debari, Ian McIntosh, and Johnny Collinson slay pillow lines located only a stone's throw from home base.
Debari makes an excellent point, by isolating themselves from the normal chaos of the frontcountry, the team can focus only on their riding and experience the raw beauty of the mountains surrounding. Something all of us who drives a desk can one day, experience.
Stay tuned as we roll out more episodes of Almost Live Season 8 in the coming weeks, giving you an exclusive look at what to expect in next fall's film.
Mediocre Amateur: Skiing the Middle Teton
In this first episode of Mediocre Amateur the ironically self effacing duo Danny and Blake attempt to ski a mountain, that when translated from french, means Middle Breast. The Middle Breast sits in a mountain range, named by the french trappers who discovered them, as The Three Breasts. The Middle Breast towers majestically just south of The Big Tit. One wonders if these mountains might have been the inspiration for the three breasted woman in Paul Verhoevens Total Recall?

I had to check it out. I was only carrying a small knife, a can of bear spray, a camera, a salmon salad sandwich, some fresh berries and honey. I found the bears and took some amazing photos.

Yellowstone National Park USA
Yellowstone National Park is a nearly 3,500-sq.-mile wilderness recreation area atop a volcanic hot spot. Mostly in Wyoming, the park spreads into parts of Montana and Idaho too. Yellowstone features dramatic canyons, alpine rivers, lush forests, hot springs and gushing geysers, including its most famous, Old Faithful. It's also home to hundreds of animal species, including bears, wolves, bison, elk and antelope.

Yellowstone's Grizzlies Make Comeback
The grizzly bear population at Yellowstone National Park has increased 4-fold over a 25-year period with no loss in genetic diversity, according to a new report.
The results strongly suggest that Yellowstone grizzly bears, Ursus arctos ssp., are well on their way to a near full recovery after a huge population drop was reported in the early 1980s. The report, published in Molecular Ecology, represents a collaborative effort between the USGS, Wildlife Genetics International, the University of Montana, and the federal, state and tribal partners of the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team.
"We already knew the grizzly bear population had been growing since the mid 1980s from our demographic analyses," team leader Frank van Manen, a USGS wildlife biologist, told Discovery News.
He added, "This study demonstrated that, in parallel with demographic growth, the effective population size (i.e. the number of individuals contributing genes to the next generation) increased as well."
Lead author Pauline Kamath, also from the USGS, echoed that good news, saying that the findings about genetic diversity are a key "indicator of a population's ability to respond to future environmental change."

Our Idaho Vacation Part II: Shoshone Falls/Yellowstone National Park
The second part of our Idaho vacation consisted of a visit to Shoshone Falls, ID, Lower and Upper Mesa Falls, ID, and Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone Lake, Old Faithful, Fountain Paint Pot, and capturing the White Dome Geyser erupting, encountering a rather placid herd of American bison, Dunraven Pass, Tower Fall. It was a beautiful two days of discovery!

In Yellowstone National Park, gray wolves — reintroduced in 1995 — compete with grizzly bears for resources. Amid this clash of predators, not only do fewer elk calves survive to adulthood ... but grizzlies and wolves target each other's young as prey.

Scenic Yellowstone National Park 2012
Here are some short clips put together of footage I shot around Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone Lake was beautiful and so calm early on in the morning. The two Falls areas of Gibbons and Tower Falls were popular spots as you can see by the beauty of them. The wild Buffalo/Bison and Elk were something to see so close up in their natural habitat.. The rest of the footage was just shot by me hanging my hand out the window with the camcorder and filming the beauty of the Yellowtsone. Hope you enjoy!

Vacation 2015
The Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park is the largest hot spring in the United States, and the third largest in the world. It is located in the Midway Geyser Basin.
Grand Prismatic Spring was noted by geologists working in the Hayden Geological Survey of 1871, and named by them for its striking coloration. Its colors match the rainbow dispersion of white light by an optical prism: red, orange, yellow, green, and blue.

Lower Yellowstone Falls, AspenChurch.com
Living and serving as Missionaries for Jesus in the American West allows us to see some amazing things, like the Lower Falls at Yellowstone National Park only 4 hours north of where we live.
But the most amazing thing we get to see is when people hear and understand the story of God's Amazing Grace revealed in the story as told in the Bible and no where else, when God sent His Son to earth to be our Savior.
It's our joy to have served another year in Evanston, WY at Aspen Church and thank all of our supporters who to this church. Minerva Terrace 2001, Mammoth Hot Springs
Minerva Terrace looks pretty much dead and inactive in this footage from 2001. (But see the next video for a very different story just an amble away.) There is a bit of water, and where it is wet you can see the pastel and deeper colours that go with the life thrives in those conditions.
I wonder what became of New Blue Spring, at the top of the terrace? Things change fast with the springs at Mammoth and in the unlikely event that it's still there, it certainly isn't new any more.
I don't know why the video is so jumpy compared to others. They were all taken with the same camera and had the same treatment, which included (years ago) being put into DVD format and then (for upload to YouTube) converted back to an up-loadable format - all with dire consequences for the quality.
I still have the original digital tapes, but with no means to play them at the moment. Maybe one day I'll come back to them. But life is short.

Mammoth Hot Springs, bits and bobs
After Canary Spring (previous video), which we spent some time at, we took a flying tour of other things at Mammoth. Here are snippets of three of them:
- Cleopatra Terrace;
- Liberty Cap;
- and Prospect Spring.
Though I can't say it's unique (but maybe it is?) Liberty Cap is like nothing else I've seen at Yellowstone and is the result of deposits building up around a spring, and the spring continuing to issue from the middle of those deposits as it grew higher and higher over a long period.

Elk and chipmunk by the road (not together), Yellowstone 2001
Another short snippet of animals by the road on our next bit of driving. Elk and a chipmunk. Btw, some people in the UK might think the thing with the antlers is a moose, and what I called a moose in another video was an elk. That's because of a real confusion of common terminology between us in the UK and the rest of the world whereby their names seem to have got swapped around here.
Mammoth hot springs to Cooke city, Yellowstone
Driving back from Mammoth Hot Springs towards Cooke City through the eastern exit of Yellowstone National Park. Heading towards a spectacular thunder and lightning storm, which I have to say we missed by about 10 minutes.
We passed people at the side of the road who I thought were there to watch the buffalo. When I passed them they had telephoto lenses. I thought this a little strange as the buffalo were within touching distance until we were told they weren't there to take pictures of the big beast but of the wolves that come out of the treeline at dusk to feed on them or other critters.

No place on Earth is like Yellowstone in winter. This world of fire and ice has thousands of boiling hot springs, geysers, and bubbling mud pots. In Yellowstone every animal struggles to find food and stay alive against an onslaught of heavy snows, polar temperatures, and ferocious predators. Beavers and grizzly bears retreat under cover from the endless blizzard, while the wolves, red fox, and river otters face winter head on.

Wildlife Documentary: Yellowstone National Park for Kids Documentarry
This wildlife documentary is an excellent Yellowstone National Park for kids documentary.
Yellowstone National Park is a national park located primarily in the U.S. state of Wyoming, although it also extends into Montana and Idaho. It was established by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872. Yellowstone, the first National Park in the U.S. and widely held to be the first national park in the world, is known for its wildlife and its many geothermal features, especially Old Faithful Geyser, one of the most popular features in the park. It has many types of ecosystems, but the subalpine forest is most abundant. It is part of the South Central Rockies forests ecoregion.
The park is the centerpiece of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, the largest remaining nearly-intact ecosystem in the Earth's northern temperate zone.
Hundreds of species of mammals, birds, fish and reptiles have been documented, including several that are either endangered or threatened. The vast forests and grasslands also include unique species of plants. Yellowstone Park is the largest and most famous megafauna location in the Continental United States. Grizzly bears, wolves, and free-ranging herds of bison and elk live in the park. The Yellowstone Park bison herd is the oldest and largest public bison herd in the United States. Forest fires occur in the park each year; in the large forest fires of 1988, nearly one third of the park was burnt. Yellowstone has numerous recreational opportunities, including hiking, camping, boating, fishing and sightseeing. Paved roads provide close access to the major geothermal areas as well as some of the lakes and waterfalls. During the winter, visitors often access the park by way of guided tours that use either snow coaches or snowmobiles.

It's also home to hundreds of animal species, including bears, wolves, bison, elk and antelope.
